MEDICAL MORALE
Carl Vogel Center

Founded in 1990, the Carl Vogel Center is a community-based HIV/AIDS agency that provides primary medical care, case management, mental health services, nutritional counseling, treatment education and adherence counseling, and complementary therapies for over 500 D.C. residents living with HIV/AIDS. Partnership funding supports a morale program that focuses on strengthening communication skills and team building among staff.

CASA of Maryland

CASA of Maryland provides a wide range of educational, organizing, and advocacy activities designed to improve the quality of life of Latino and other immigrant communities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region. Services include an employment placement program, legal and social services, health promotion and testing services, and courses focusing on the English language, Spanish literacy, and financial and computer literacy. Partnership funding supports an HIV prevention outreach project targeting low-income Latinos in Prince George’s County.
Children’s National Medical Center

Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC) is a nonprofit pediatric health care system serving the entire metropolitan area. CNMC’s Special Immunology Services provides pediatric HIV services to children up to age 13, and the Burgess Clinic provides adolescent HIV services for 13-21 year olds. HIV services staff follow the majority of known HIV+ individuals under 21 in the metropolitan area and provide HIV treatment, research, and primary and secondary prevention education. Partnership funding supports the Teen Life Clubs, a comprehensive HIV prevention intervention for middle school aged-youth.
Family & Medical Counseling Service, Inc.

Family & Medical Counseling Service, Inc. (FMCS) is a community-based service provider that addresses the needs of the African American community east of the river. FMCS provides a full range of services, including outpatient substance abuse treatment; individual, family, and group therapy; primary and specialty care for persons living with HIV/AIDS; medical case management; a food bank; nutritional support; HIV treatment adherence; HIV counseling and testing; and syringe exchange. Partnership funding supports the purchase of a van for syringe exchange services in Wards 7 and 8.
Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive

Founded in 1993 by a coalition of service providers, advocates, and law enforcement officials as an outreach and referral service, Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive (HIPS) has emerged as a nationally recognized program that meets the needs of sex workers and assists them in their efforts to reduce harm associated with sex work. Currently, HIPS provides HIV prevention and education services to approximately 2,000 male, female, and transgender sex workers in Washington, D.C. Partnership funding supports HIV peer education services for male, female, and transgender sex workers.
Latin American Youth Center

Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) is a community-based, multi-cultural youth and family development organization that provides services in D.C. and Maryland. LAYC provides a range of services, including educational enhancement programming, advocacy, workforce development, art and media, and social services such as preventative health education, treatment, housing, and case management. Partnership funding supports Project STRIPES, a health education and outreach program targeting LGBTQ youth of color in Wards 1 and 4.
Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care

The mission of Mary’s Center, a federally qualified health center, is to provide health care, education, and social services to underserved, underinsured, and non-insured immigrants and African Americans in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Services include medical care, mental health, oral health, adolescent programs, home visitation, family literacy education, and a mobile clinic. Partnership funding supports HIV/AIDS testing, counseling, and referral to care and treatment among District residents of African ancestry.
Metro TeenAIDS

Metro TeenAIDS (MTA) is the area’s primary community-based organization focused solely on the needs of young people as they relate to HIV/AIDS. Founded in 1988 by a group of physicians and other health care providers who recognized the need for more HIV/AIDS education for young people, MTA focuses on HIV prevention and advocacy, and provides a wide range of programs for youth in the District, Maryland, and Virginia. Partnership funding provides general operating support for HIV prevention, education, and advocacy services targeting youth infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
National AIDS Fund

The National AIDS Fund, the national umbrella organization that supports the work of 29 local AIDS partnerships around the country, provides the Washington AIDS Partnership with the opportunity to operate an AmeriCorps team in Washington, D.C. AmeriCorps members serve in local agencies, improving the quality of and access to HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, and care services. In 2009-2010, the Partnership’s twelve members are placed at: Children’s National Medical Center – Burgess Clinic, Food and Friends, Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive, Joseph’s House, Latin American Youth Center, Metro TeenAIDS, Miriam’s House, Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry, Our Place DC, Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League, and Whitman-Walker Clinic. Partnership funding supports a portion of the member costs for the 2009-2010 team.
Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry

Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry’s (NOVAM) mission is to educate the community about HIV/AIDS; to combat the fear, prejudice, and complacency that surround the disease; and to provide direct services to meet the needs of those who are living with HIV/AIDS. NOVAM provides HIV prevention education programming for youth ages 14-24, and direct client services to people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, with a particular emphasis on low-income children and families. Partnership funding supports the provision of intensive HIV prevention education to at-risk youth in juvenile detention and other alternative facilities in Northern Virginia.
Union Temple Baptist Church

The Union Temple Baptist Church has served the east of the river neighborhoods for over 35 years. Services include adolescent housing, delinquency prevention and after school programs, and comprehensive HIV/AIDS services such as medical case management, mental health services, and substance abuse services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Union Temple’s Akoma Project provides HIV/AIDS prevention services. Partnership funding supports implementation of the peer-led SISTA HIV prevention intervention for African American women in Wards 7 and 8.
Us Helping Us

Us Helping Us (UHU) is a community-based AIDS education and support organization that provides services to African American gay and bisexual men, transgender individuals, and heterosexual women. The organization has become the leading provider of prevention and support services to its target populations, and has developed a national reputation for its work. Partnership funding provides general operating support for HIV prevention programs for African American gay/bisexual adult and young men, and HIV counseling and testing for heterosexual African American women and men.
Woodson Adolescent Wellness Center

Established in 1994, the Woodson Adolescent Wellness Center (WAWC) is a school-based clinic housed at D.C.’s Woodson Senior High School in Ward 7. WAWC provides comprehensive and age-appropriate health care, including physical, mental, and oral health services to students enrolled at the high school. Partnership funding supports a teen peer educator program focused on HIV education and testing at Woodson Senior High School.

District of Columbia Primary Care Association

Founded in 1996, the District of Columbia Primary Care Association (DCPCA) is both an advocacy and a membership organization whose mission is to facilitate the development and maintenance of an effective, integrated primary care delivery system in Washington, D.C. Partnership funding provides general operating support to increase the capacity of D.C.’s primary health care system to test, treat, and educate medically vulnerable persons who are living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS.

Virginia Organizations Responding to AIDS (VORA) is a coalition of local, regional, and statewide organizations and individuals responding to the AIDS epidemic. VORA’s mission is to educate public policy makers about HIV/AIDS, and the challenges confronting Virginians living with HIV/AIDS. Partnership funding supports public education and advocacy activities in Virginia.

Miriam’s House

Miriam’s House is a residence for formerly homeless women with AIDS, some of whom have children. The mission of the organization is to provide a dynamic residential community that empowers recovery from homelessness, disease, and addictions in an environment of compassion, integrity, and accountability. Residents receive nursing services, case management, addiction counseling, and emotional and spiritual support. Partnership funding supports the executive director transition process along with organizational planning.
