MEDICAL MORALE
Carl Vogel Center
$18,000
The Carl Vogel Center is a community-based HIV/AIDS agency that provides primary
medical care, case management, mental health services, nutritional counseling,
treatment education and adherence counseling, and complementary therapies for
D.C. residents living with HIV/AIDS. Partnership funding supports development of
a morale program that focuses on strengthening personal relationships among
staff, staff appreciation and recognition, and self-care.
Inova Juniper Program
$15,000
The Inova Juniper Program is a nonprofit medical clinic, established in 1988 to
strategically address the health care needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS in
the Northern Virginia region. The program provides comprehensive medical care
and case management for clients and educational trainings to health care
providers. Partnership funding supports the “Relax, Renew, Revive” medical
morale program which allows staff members to design a personal growth and stress
reduction plan.
Joseph’s House
$15,000
Joseph’s House is a residence for formerly homeless men and women living with
AIDS. The residents receive nursing services, case management, addiction
counseling, and emotional and spiritual support. Partnership funding supports
continuation of Joseph’s House’s medical morale program which focuses on
compassionate care, bereavement issues, grief and loss skills, staff
appreciation, and self care.

PREVENTION
Children’s
National Medical Center
$45,000
Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC) is a nonprofit pediatric health care
system serving the entire metropolitan area. The medical team in pediatric HIV
services and the adolescent HIV clinic follow the majority of known HIV infected
individuals under 21 in the metropolitan area and provide HIV treatment and
primary and secondary prevention education. Partnership funding supports the
Teens Against the Spread of AIDS (TASA), CNMC’s HIV prevention peer education
program.
Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive
$30,000
Founded in 1993 by a coalition of service providers, advocates, and law
enforcement officials as an outreach and referral service, Helping Individual
Prostitutes Survive (HIPS) has emerged as a nationally recognized program that
meets the needs of sex workers and assists them in their efforts to reduce harm
associated with sex work. Currently, HIPS provides HIV prevention and education
services to approximately 2,000 male, female, and transgender sex workers in
Washington, D.C. Partnership funding supports peer-led HIV prevention and
skills-building sessions for African American men who have sex with men and
transgender women.
Identity

Identity's mission is to empower Latino youth to reach their full potential
through culturally and linguistically competent youth and family-based
initiatives. Identity’s services include a youth development program offering
after-school skills building activities; HIV testing, counseling, and referral
services; an HIV peer educator program; outreach; and mental health services.
Partnership funding supports HIV prevention outreach and counseling, testing,
and referral services for at-risk Latinos and African Americans in the Takoma
Park/Langley area.
Metro TeenAIDS
$30,000
Metro TeenAIDS (MTA) is the area’s primary community-based organization
focused solely on the needs of young people as they relate to HIV/AIDS. Founded
in 1988 by a group of physicians and other health care providers who recognized
the need for more HIV/AIDS education for young people, MTA focuses on HIV
prevention and advocacy, and provides a wide range of programs for youth in the
District, Maryland, and Virginia. Partnership funding supports HIV prevention
outreach and education targeting African American D.C. youth.
Our Place
$30,000
Our Place provides women who have been in the criminal justice system with
the support and services they need to resettle in the community, reunite with
their families, and find housing and jobs. Our Place also provides services to
currently incarcerated District of Columbia women. The population served by Our
Place is at high risk for HIV due to multiple risk factors, and has a high
incidence of HIV/AIDS. Partnership funding supports HIV peer education and
prevention activities for incarcerated women.
Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan
Washington

Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington’s (PPMW) mission is to support
and protect the right and responsibility of every person to make free and
informed reproductive choices. PPMW
provides low-income, at-risk teens, women, and men with affordable, accessible,
and confidential reproductive healthcare, family planning, counseling and
testing services, as well as teen pregnancy prevention programs. Partnership
funding supports a peer education program for African American teenagers and
young people in PPMW’s program center and in Wards 5-8.
Prevention Works
$40,000
Prevention Works is the syringe exchange and harm reduction program operating in
the District of Columbia. Programs include a range of harm reduction activities
such as referrals to drug treatment and medical care, HIV testing and
counseling, and exchanging used syringes for new ones. Prevention Works is the
only District of Columbia agency providing this critical service. Partnership
funding supports syringe exchange and harm reduction services in the District.
Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League

The Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League (SMYAL) is a community-based
organization providing direct services to LGBTQ youth, and training and
education for youth service providers to promote self-confident, healthy,
productive lives for LGBTQ youth. Services include life skills and leadership
development, counseling and support, health and wellness education, safe social
activities, and community outreach and education. Partnership funding supports
SMYAL’s after-school youth center.

Us Helping Us (UHU) is a community-based
AIDS education and support organization that provides services to African
American gay and bisexual men and transgender individuals. The organization has
become the leading provider of prevention and support services to its target
populations, and has developed a national reputation for its work. Partnership
funding supports a social marketing campaign focused on getting more African
American gay men into HIV testing, counseling, and referral services.
Women’s Collective
$40,000
The Women’s Collective’s mission is to meet the self-defined needs of women
and their families living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS, reducing barriers to
care, and strengthening the network of support and services. The Women’s
Collective predominantly serves women of color through peer-based strategies
that address their needs and provide empowerment to help themselves and their
families. Services include
family-centered case management, HIV testing and counseling, mental health
services, primary and secondary prevention, and outreach. Partnership
funding supports HIV/AIDS prevention and other client services.

CASA of Maryland

CASA of Maryland provides a wide range of educational, organizing, and advocacy
activities designed to improve the quality of life of Latino immigrants and
refugees in Washington, D.C. Services
include an employment placement program, legal and social services, health
promotion and testing services, and courses focusing on the English language,
Spanish literacy, and financial and computer literacy. Partnership funding
supports advocacy activities for improved access to linguistically and
culturally appropriate HIV testing and counseling services for the low-income,
high-risk Latino community in Prince George’s County.
DC Appleseed Center
$50,000
Founded in 1994, the DC Appleseed Center is an independent nonprofit
organization dedicated to strengthening the financial health and management of
the District of Columbia. DC Appleseed accomplishes its mission by conducting
studies of serious local issues and advocating for solutions that can be
achieved through local or federal action. Partnership funding supports continued
implementation of the recommendations made in DC Appleseed’s report analyzing
the District’s HIV/AIDS system of prevention and care.

focused solely on the needs of young people as they relate to HIV/AIDS. Founded
in 1988 by a group of physicians and other health care providers who recognized
the need for more HIV/AIDS education for young people, MTA focuses on HIV
prevention and advocacy, and provides a wide range of programs for youth in the
District, Maryland, and Virginia. Partnership funding supports advocacy and
organizing work with and for District youth on HIV/AIDS and other sexual health
education and services public policy.

injection drug users in the District of Columbia.
Programs include referrals to drug treatment and medical care, HIV
testing and counseling, and exchanging used syringes for new ones. Prevention
Works is the only District of Columbia agency providing this critical service.
Partnership funding supports the community liaison position which focuses on
increasing awareness of and support for syringe access in the District.

that provides services to African American gay and bisexual men and transgender
individuals. The organization has become the leading provider of prevention and

reputation for its work. Partnership funding supports a technology upgrade
project which includes purchasing computer hardware and software to improve
capacity for service delivery, data reporting, and administrative requirements.
